The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
