The former Liverpool manager says a return to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait since 1990, currently occupies roles in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, that means I might decide later on, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about which situations must arise to draw him back to management, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing during downpours through long matches; I don’t miss going to interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, yet sharing a meal with the players enjoying conversation, that’s nice. With many victories so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, praising him due to the changes which secured the championship last term. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. Not a single person would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Impossible.”
