President Trump Calls Relatives of Injured Guard Soldiers to the White House
Former President Trump announced on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Details on the Tragic Event
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The president explained he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the families of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Response
Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s government program to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s alma mater, stated to the press. “She was sweet, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Steps and Government Adjustments
Authorities have charged a twenty-nine-year-old Afghan national with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to suspend asylum processing and cease granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she aimed to speak to his relatives.
Impact of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” he told the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
