A group of four supporters are four such fans.

The four siblings had their flights and tickets arranged for the Boxing Day and New Year Tests "well ahead of time", dreaming of a rare England series success.

Instead, they have watched Australia dismantle the tourists in just a short period from their house in the north of England.

"Everyone at work has been making comments about it being over for the last two weeks," stated Sam Ryding.

"We always thought that we would have the series on the line by the time we arrived."

Lowered Expectations

Optimism was high about England's chances of ending their 15-year wait for a victory down under prior to the first ball.

However, the situation is now facing the prospect of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 matches when the next match starts in Melbourne this week.

The tourists - and their supporters - will be keen to prevent a clean sweep.

One sibling noted the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach the aggressive 'Bazball' approach in the past couple of seasons had "brought fresh energy to" the longest format for followers of the team.

But the Ryding siblings said they had realistic outlooks for the fourth and fifth Tests - and all they are hoping for from the players is "a bit of fight".

"Every pundit references this, but it all hinges on fortitude. 'The aggressive approach has been turned into a buzzword now that is just, like, nonsense cricket," added Rory.

"During a long match, you should apply yourself. Chasing balls 'outside the line has never been in the textbooks, and that is mainly the fault the batting lineup."

The Remaining Matches

When questioned if he believed England will secure a victory in the current series, Sam said: "It looks like the hosts are a stronger side right now."

"It will require multiple performers that delivers for the team and produces a match-winning display."

Despite the scoreline, the group remains anticipating the trip.

"We are going to have a wonderful trip anyway," added another sibling. "We have to go with that mindset."

"Naturally, it's a let-down we can't contest the series, but we have made a substantial financial commitment as it is."

"We plan to savor spending the festive season overseas. Additionally, it's a new experience for us away from home during the festive period."

An educator, Katie is focused on enjoying the long-haul travel as part of her seasonal break.

"If all else fails, I can play golf to rely on," she added.
