England Coach Southee Uncertain on Ashes Availability
Tim Southee's most recent Test match for the Kiwis was against the English side in December 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Southee is still working through what his involvement will be at the upcoming Ashes series in the host nation.
The former New Zealand seamer is only likely to be available for the first Test due to his participation in the ILT20 tournament, which starts on 2 December in the United Arab Emirates.
Southee, aged 36, took up a role as the English team's pace bowling advisor in the warmer months after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Speaking as the English squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through that at the moment.
"We will determine what happens over the coming days."
England pace icon Broad had declared the Australia side as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in little doubt over what to expect during the contest, which begins on 21 November.
"I don't think there's ever a bad Aussie side," Southee remarked.
"Our focus is firmly on what we're trying to do. I think the quality of [England's] team that's going out to the host country is brilliant.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I believe the whole cricket world is."
But, before the English team head to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday.
